Hi guys (and gals),

I'm in the process of planning my first conversion. I'm planning on using a Freightliner Century with a condo and cutting the condo right behind the front seats. I don't end up with a bunk but I do get a nice tall ceiling over the front seats. I've seen another done this way and it's really nice. I want to remove the front drive axle but am wondering how much box I can get away with safely. I've been told 24'. I'd really like to get 26' if possible. I also don't want my wheelbase getting too long since I'll be pulling a trailer to race tracks the majority of the time and the pits are a little tight sometimes. What kind of overhang should I be looking at? 6 feet? I'm not sure what wheelbase that will give me but assume I'm going to have to stretch the frame.

Any input would be appreciated.

Brad

You might want to consider leaving the front drive axle just for the ride and stability features. I am currently in the process of building a triple slide 30' box on a freightliner columbia. We wanted the sleeper for two reasons #1 We can accomidate 2 more beds in this area if we need them and #2 it is laid out for 2 lay-z-boy style chairs because it always seems like everyone is crowded around the driver when you go down the road. I added 10.5' of frame in the middle and 8' behind the axles. I tried 6' but it just didn't look right. Also I matched he contour and angles of the sleeper all the way to the back instead of squaring everything off. Hope this helps. Razz
