....John.....where is the gain?....the second axel doesn't drive it's a floater that only casters to unload the tractors axels.....the last two axels might be drive or they could be a drive and a floater also.....since I have experience with boats....the origional owner must be towing that we call "ships".....can't figure out why they would need that many axels....boats don't weigh that much.....you'd be lucky if you get a 40k on in a lifetime....geofkaye

women-food-money-naps...not necessarly in that order

By us we use that type of truck for moving HEAVY equipment. My buddy's truck's third axle is a tag. Nice setup when you have a heavy load

Geof,
It would allow the improved turning radius when running light or in tight spots and yet allow you to drop it on the open road... raise it for toll booths also... I wondered what kind of boat they were hauling with it. but as I remember SHIP is reserved for one over 100 ft. with the weight capacity of this rig .. what a boat... I have seen several class A motorhomes with Tag axles as well as at least one Kingsley. I worry about the ones designed by the class A manufacturers but the ones that came on a HDT would be my preference. I am pretty sure mine will end up being standard twin screw dual tandem Truck conversion motorhome..unless I find a SUPERIOR deal.

The usual reason you will see a tag axle on a CLass"A" rig is that the mfr. designed a coach that is too heavy for the intended chassis but wanted to keep the price of the rig down insted of using the proper chassis for the job. Fortunately this form of stupidity is on the wane as safety concerns now seem to override cost concerns a little more than they used to, due mainly due to folks wanting brakes that actually work more than once...
